Pretomaymycin is an antibiotic produced by Str. umbrosus subsp. raffinophilus DO-62. It is active against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria and experimental murine tumor sarcoma 180 and leukemia P388.

The total syntheses of naturally occurring E-tomaymycin (1E) and its olefinic geometrical isomer, Z-tomaymycin (1Z) are described. The Z-isomer was found to have the same anti-bacterial activity as E-isomer (1E).
